Re: Bitcoin

Martti Malmi, a sophomore at the Helsinki University of Technology using the handle “Trickstern” on the anti-state.com forum, had emailed Satoshi Nakamoto offering to help with Bitcoin: “I would like to help with Bitcoin, if there’s something I can do.”

In this reply dated May 2, 2009, Satoshi responded positively, praising Malmi’s understanding of Bitcoin as “spot on.” Satoshi identified the most pressing need: website writing and documentation. He acknowledged his own limitations as a writer and asked Malmi to create website content and a FAQ for the project.

Satoshi offered to provide Malmi with a compilation of his previous replies to questions from emails and forums to use as source material for the FAQ.

This exchange marked the beginning of one of the most important collaborations in Bitcoin’s early history. Malmi would go on to become the first person other than Satoshi to have commit access to Bitcoin’s code, the administrator of bitcoin.org, and a key contributor to Bitcoin’s development through early 2011.
